Color Memory: a quick color challenge

How the game works

A single target color fills a large swatch. When you feel ready, you hide it and face six candidate swatches: the target plus five near neighbors that differ by small, deliberate steps. You pick the one you remember, get immediate feedback, and repeat for five rounds. The gap between study time and choice is where the game lives — color memory starts decaying within seconds.

What this challenge trains

This drills short-term color recall: holding an unnamed shade in your head without a reference to compare against. A helpful strategy is to anchor the target in words before hiding it — "a dusty coral, more pink than orange" — because verbal labels survive longer than raw sensation. Just remember the candidates may punish a label that is slightly off.

Before you compare results

Targets and distractors are regenerated every round, and the tempting wrong answers move around, so there is no fixed answer pattern to learn. Screen brightness and room light change how the study swatch is encoded in the first place, which makes cross-device comparisons unfair. Your accuracy is feedback about memory under these viewing conditions, not a test of eyesight.
