Spot the Different: a quick color challenge

How the game works

Each round fills a grid with tiles that share almost the same color. Exactly one tile is shifted by a small step in hue, saturation or lightness, and your job is to tap it. The first two rounds use nine tiles; the last three grow to sixteen, so the odd tile hides in a larger crowd. The dimension that changes is not announced, which keeps you scanning instead of memorizing a trick.

What this challenge trains

This is a discrimination drill: it measures how small a color difference you can still reliably pick out when every distractor is nearly identical. A useful technique is to relax your gaze and let the grid blur slightly — the different tile often pops as a texture break before you can name why. Sweeping row by row works too, but it is slower once the grid grows.

Before you compare results

The colors, the position of the odd tile and the size of the difference are regenerated every round, so two sessions never repeat a fixed answer sheet. Brightness, color profile, night mode and room lighting can all shrink or exaggerate the gap between tiles. Treat your score as feedback for this screen and this room, not as a measurement of vision or ability.
