Color Stroop: a quick color challenge

How the game works

A color word appears on stage — but the ink never owes the word anything. Your job is to ignore what the text says and choose the color the letters are actually drawn in, from four options. You pick a pace: no limit, five seconds or three seconds per question, with five seconds as the default. Ten questions make a set, and wrong or timed-out answers reveal the correct ink color before you move on.

What this challenge trains

This is the classic Stroop effect: reading is so automatic that suppressing it costs real effort. The skill being flexed is selective attention, not color vision. Most people improve when they stop "reading" and start looking at the word as a shape — soft focus helps, and so does saying the ink color silently before scanning the options.

Before you compare results

Words, ink colors and option orders are regenerated every question, so memorizing pairs does nothing. Small screens and glare make ink harder to identify at the faster time modes, which conflates attention with display quality. Your score is feedback about attention under these conditions, not a measure of vision or cognitive ability.
